Special WIC Procedures

The San Patricio County WIC Program is still open for business and has modified service to help keep clients and staff safe.

San Patricio County WIC Program

San Patricio County WIC Program is a nutrition education program which provides supplemental foods and promotes good health for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, infants and also children up to the surrounding Counties.

The Services WIC Offers:

WIC Foods

WIC provides supplemental foods rich in protein, iron, calcium, vitamin A, vitamin C.

These foods are low in fat, high in fiber, and promote healthy weight. WIC monthly food packages may include:

  • Fruits and vegetables
  • 100% fruit and vegetable juices
  • Milk, cheese, and yogurt
  • Eggs
  • Whole grains like oatmeal, whole wheat tortillas, bread, and pasta
  • Healthy cereals
  • Beans
  • Peanut Butter
  • Canned tuna or salmon
  • Baby formula and baby foods

 

Nutrition Education

Clients receive individual nutrition counseling and nutrition classes related to each family's interests, needs and concerns.

Breastfeeding Support

Clients receive support and instruction on breastfeeding methods. Breast pumps and breastfeeding incentives are available for mothers who meet certain criteria.

Referrals

WIC refers to a variety of health and social services, including:

Medicaid, Food Stamps, Children's Health Insurance (CHIP), Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), TANF, Prenatal Care, medical and dental services, food pantries, drug and alcohol abuse programs, Community Service Agency (CSA),etc.

 

Mobile Unit

San Patricio County WIC Program has mobile unit that provides WIC services to different sites with in the area. They provide WIC services to residents that may not have access to transportation

High Risk Counseling 

High risk counseling is provided by a registered dietitian to participants who have been identified with a high risk condition such as excessive weight gain, low maternal weight gain, and gestational diabetes.
